PET Bale | Inbound Material Specifications
Material Description
PET bottles from municipal curbside collection, sorted to remove undesirable material and baled for efficient transportation and handling.
Sortation Requirements (prior to baling)
- Accept criteria: PET bottles, SPI Code 1 (carbonated beverage, water,
sports drink, fruit juice, tea, etc., including labels and caps)
- Reject criteria: Non-bottle PET or otherwise; non-PET bottle or otherwise,
such as PVC (Code 3), HDPE (Code 2), PLA (Code 7), PP (Code 5); non-plastic such
as glass, cans, ice, free-flowing liquids, metal, dirt, gravel, wood, hazardous
chemical containers, medical waste such as syringes, personal hygiene materials
Bale Requirements
- Bales must maintain integrity during transport and handling
- Minimum dimensions: 36” x 36” x 40”
- Maximum dimensions: 36” x 48” x 72”
- Wire shall be non-rusting galvanized, ideally 10 gauge
- Density shall be from 10-25 lb/ft3
- Outdoor storage shall be covered, and shall not exceed six months, to avoid
degradation due to exposure to sunlight and other elements
- Each bale shall be tagged with the Clean Tech release number
